Your Lip Blush Journey

Lips are one of the fastest-healing areas of the face, but they can also be one of the most unpredictable when it comes to pigment retention.

It’s completely normal for your lips to fade significantly after the first appointment—sometimes by as much as 50–80%. This is part of the normal healing process.

Most clients achieve their desired result over two appointments, although some may require a third session depending on factors such as:

• Individual skin type
• Natural lip colour
• Lifestyle and sun exposure
• Medications
• Pigment retention
• Healing response
• Following aftercare instructions
• Development of a cold sore during healing

Your perfecting appointment is scheduled approximately 4–6 weeks after your initial treatment to refine the colour and ensure beautiful, even results.

Healing

Following your treatment, mild swelling is completely normal and generally settles within 24–48 hours.

Over the following one to two weeks, your lips will naturally exfoliate as they heal. During this time, the colour will soften before gradually returning over the following weeks.

Because of the healing process, we recommend scheduling your Lip Blush treatment at least two weeks before any important events or special occasions.

Preparing for Your Appointment

For the best possible results, please follow these preparation guidelines:

• Avoid Aspirin, Ibuprofen or other blood-thinning medications for 48 hours beforehand (unless medically required—always follow your doctor’s advice).
• Avoid alcohol for 48 hours prior to your appointment.
• Limit caffeine on the day of your appointment.
• Avoid Fish Oil, Vitamin E, Niacin and other supplements that may increase bleeding unless prescribed by your doctor.
• Avoid Retinol or active skincare products around the mouth for several days beforehand.
• Stay well hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment.
• Exfoliate your lips gently and keep them well moisturised before your treatment.

Cold Sores

If you have ever experienced a cold sore—even if it was many years ago—you must take preventative antiviral medication before your appointment.

The tattooing procedure can trigger a cold sore outbreak, which may affect both healing and pigment retention.

We recommend discussing preventative medication with your doctor before your treatment.

Common options include:

• Valtrex (Valaciclovir): Prescription antiviral medication, usually started two days before treatment and continued afterwards as directed by your doctor.
• Lysine: An amino acid supplement many clients choose to begin several weeks before their appointment as additional support.

Choosing Your Colour

During your consultation, we’ll help you select the perfect shade to complement your skin tone and desired outcome.

Many clients choose a soft neutral colour similar to their favourite lipstick or natural lip tone, while others prefer a brighter blush or more defined lipstick look.

Feel free to bring your favourite lipstick to your appointment or send us inspiration photos beforehand. We carry a wide range of premium pigments and can customise colours to create your perfect shade.

Lip Blush vs Lip Fillers

Although both treatments enhance the lips, they achieve very different results.

Lip Blush Tattooing enhances colour, definition and symmetry while creating the illusion of fuller lips through expertly placed pigment.

Lip Fillers add physical volume but do not improve faded pigment or redefine the lip border.

Many clients choose to combine both treatments for a beautifully balanced result. If you already have lip fillers—or are planning to have them—we recommend waiting 2–4 weeks after your filler treatment before booking your Lip Blush appointment to allow the filler to fully settle.
